Birmingham Electrical JATC offers a nationally recognized registered apprenticeship training program that has been training electricians since 1942.

The apprenticeship program is a combination of classroom study and on-the-job training and can be completed in five years.

Apprentices have full-time jobs and receive a wage for their work.

They also have medical insurance, three retirement programs, and 53 college credits at no cost to them.

In total, apprentices spend 10,000 hours on-the-job and 900 hours of classroom study.

They attend classes at the BEJATC Training facility which is located behind the Birmingham airport.

Classes take place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. one or two nights per week, depending on the class.

Apprentices advance in their training after every 2,000 hours of on-the-job training and 180 hours of classroom study.

Before graduation, apprentices are required to have several certifications, including OSHA 10, CPR-First Aid, Craft Certification, and a Journeyman Electrician License issued by the State of Alabama.
