2Hawaii Electricians Training Fund
About the School
Hawaii Electricians Training Fund offers apprenticeship programs that allow students to earn while they learn by combining a full-time job with classroom instruction.
During this training period, apprentices are employed under a Union contract that includes gradual wage increases.
Trainees work under the direction of a journey worker who teaches them the ins and outs of this trade at the job site.
Courses Offered
The following programs are available:
- Inside Wireperson- a program that takes approximately five years to complete and consists of 10,000 hours of on-the-job training and 800 hours of classroom instruction.
- Telecom CATV- this apprenticeship combines 6,000 hours of on-the-job training with 480 hours of classroom instruction and can be completed in three years
- Lineman- apprentices enrolled in this program complete 7,000 hours of training on-the-job over the course of three years with approximately 160 hours of classroom instruction per year
During this time, apprentices earn a salary that starts at 60 percent of the Journeyworker’s wage in the first step of training and reaches 90 percent during the last step of the training.

3Hawaii Laborers' Apprenticeship & Training
About the School
Hawaii Laborers’ Apprenticeship & Training prepares a skilled workforce for the construction industry.
The union facility is managed by Trustees from the Hawaii Laborers’ Union, Local 368, and management personnel.
Courses Offered
The following apprentices are available:
- Construction Apprenticeship- a program that includes a minimum of 4,000 hours of on-the-job training and at least 290 hours of related classroom instruction; the instruction is divided into three steps:
- 1,700 hours of on-the-job training in civil construction
